Dr. Karen Moss is a nurse scientist and assistant professor in the Colleges of Nursing and Medicine at The Ohio State University. Dr. Moss’ research program focuses on advance care planning, pain, palliative care, and healthcare decision making for the end of life for persons living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) and their family caregivers. She examines multiple perspectives on factors that influence pain and end-of-life decision-making processes for Black/African American older adults living with ADRD and their caregivers. She also seeks to better understand caregiver stress. Dr. Moss is the principal investigator in her health equity-focused Family Caregiver Community Research (FamCare) Lab. She is actively engaged in developing and testing interventions to support African American ADRD caregivers. Dr. Moss has received funding from several organizations including the National Institute on Aging, Cambia Health, MAYDAY Fund, and Jonas Foundation. She is passionate about improving the overall quality of life for Black/African American older adults living with ADRD and their family caregivers.
