This advancement of science in CAM therapies led to the advancement of symptom science through the examination of symptoms and their relationship to biological mechanisms of action on natural killer cells, stress hormones, cytokines, telomeres, and genes. Examination of these mechanisms of action has had a high scientific international influence. Dr. Lengacher’s research on developing and testing CAM therapy interventions has transformed models of care for the delivery of mindfulness-based stress reduction, translating research into practice. This research is cited in numerous publications. Dr. Lengacher has sustained funding from the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute, American Cancer Society, and Oncology Nursing Society. As a leader in her field, Dr. Lengacher has published as the first or second author of over 120 of 194 nursing and interdisciplinary journals.
