Dr. Emily Mroz is a T32 postdoctoral fellow in the Section of Geriatrics, Yale School of Medicine and affiliate of the Social Gerontology and Health Lab, Yale School of Public Health. Her research addresses patients' and caregivers' navigation of serious illness, end-of-life, and bereavement, as well as healthy adults’ preparation for future health changes, caregiving, and end-of-life. In much of her work, she applies a narrative identity lens to discern how individuals' self-narratives guide their beliefs and behaviors across these contexts. Much of Dr. Mroz's current work focuses on preparing caregivers of persons living with dementia for caregiving roles, thereby supporting both dyad members' health and functioning. Dr. Mroz also conducts research on serious illness/ palliative care communication, with the goal of empowering clinicians, patients, and caregivers to navigate complex communication, supporting priorities-aligned decision-making and wellbeing.
