Full Professor Nursing Science
Maastricht University
Maastricht, Limburg, Netherlands
Netherlands and I am the head of the Department Health Services Research (HSR) where over 120 researchers and support staff are employed. My field of expertise is nursing care for older clients living at home. Currently, I am involved in a variety of studies that aim to improve the care of older clients and their caregivers on the one hand and the quality of work for community care staff on the other hand. This application builds logically on my prior work. My extensive research has resulted in over 120 peer-reviewed high-ranked publications and contributed to many (inter)national research reports, book chapters and editorials. In the last few years, I have successfully raised research grants and managed and completed major projects (including those for the EU European 7th Framework). I am heavily involved in the European Academy of Nursing Science (EANS). I am frequently invited as a keynote speaker at international meetings and scientific conferences and reviews for scientific journals, international research funding agencies, and universities. I am actively involved in the Living Lab of Ageing and Long-term Care (https://www.awolimburg.nl/en). The Living Lab is a successful partnership of Maastricht University with 9 long-term care providers, Zuyd University of Applied Sciences and two vocational training institutes (responsible for the training of e.g. nursing assistants). It is a network in the southern part of the Netherlands where researchers collaborate through continuous discussion with end-users such as older persons and their families, client representatives, professionals, healthcare directors, policymakers and teachers. It covers approximately 110 long-term care facilities (e.g. nursing homes, assisted and group living facilities) as well as professional home care, and includes about 30,000 clients and more than 15,000 staff. From September 2013 until September 2016, I have been a visiting professor at the University of Greenwich in Health Services Research.
