Pamela A. Saunders, PhD, is an associate professor in both the neurology and psychiatry departments. Her research focuses on discourse, aging, empathy, doctor/patient communication, and standardized patient education. Her grant portfolio includes funding from the Alzheimer’s Association, NIA, and FDA. At GUSOM, she was chief course director of the Doctoring Curriculum and is currently director of the Geriatrics Clerkship. In 2002, she co-founded the geriatrics curriculum at GUSOM with funding from the Hartford Foundation. Dr. Saunders is the founding director of the Aging & Health MS Degree Program housed in the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. In addition, she teaches reflective writing and Mind-Body Medicine skills to medical and graduate students. Her doctorate is in sociolinguistics from Georgetown. She lives in Falls Church, VA with her husband, two sons, and dog, Fancy.
