Shelia R. Cotten, a sociologist, is the Associate Vice President for Research and Provost's Distinguished Professor at Clemson University. Her research examines emerging technologies and their use across the life course, as well as the health, workforce, and educational impacts of technology use. She is currently studying workforce impacts of automated vehicles with funding from NSF, interrelationships among social media use and well-being among older adults, and technology use and cognitive decline. She is a past chair of the Communication, Information Technologies, and Media Sociology section of the American Sociological Association and a GSA Fellow.
