Emily A. Greenfield, PhD, is a Professor of Social Work and Director of the Hub for Aging Collaboration at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. She is an internationally recognized leader in community gerontology and an active contributor to the Age-Friendly Communities Movement. Dr. Greenfield's pioneering research, teaching, and practice seek to bolster community-centered approaches for advancing innovation and equity in opportunities for long and healthy lives. Her work has helped to accelerate 21st century models for aging in community, including age- and dementia-friendly community initiatives, housing-based supportive service programs, and Village organizations. She also conducts research on how social inequalities from childhood influence later life cognition and well-being. Since joining the Rutgers faculty in 2007, she has served as a teacher and mentor for students—encouraging their leadership for an aging society by using research, theory, and interprofessional collaboration as tools for improving practice, policy, and systems.
