Sheila M. Thompson, MS (she/her) is a 4th year PhD student in Clinical Psychology at Palo Alto University (PAU) in the Trauma and Neuropsychology areas of emphasis. Sheila maintains several positions that provide training in trauma, neuropsychology, and/or common trauma-related comorbidities. Sheila’s current research labs include Dr. Lisa M. Brown’s Risk and Resilience Lab at PAU, Dr. J. Kaci Fairchild’s Wellness in Aging lab at the Palo Alto VA (PAVA) MIRECC (VISN 21), and Dr. Carmen McLean’s lab at the National Center for PTSD (Dissemination and Training, PAVA). She is currently a student therapist at PAVA’s Health Psychology site focusing on chronic pain and a clinical assessor at the San Francisco VA and University of California San Francisco BAND and THRIVE labs focusing on serious mental illness and psychedelic use. Her clinical and research interests revolve around the influence of traumatic stressors and trauma disorders (i.e., complex PTSD, PTSD) on neuropsychological functioning and well-being in late life. She aims to increase her competency in differentiating cPTSD from other disorders and to help develop effective treatments that incorporate both psychological and neuropsychological considerations. Sheila is a student affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA; D20, Adult Development and Aging; D40, Clinical Neuropsychology; D56, Trauma Psychology), the Gerontological Society of America (GSA), the International Neuropsychological Society (INS), and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS; Complex Trauma SIG).
