Jennie Larkin, Ph.D, joined the National Institute on Aging (NIA) in 2020 as the Deputy Director of the Division of Neuroscience (DN), bringing expertise in neuroscience, open science, and data science to NIA. Dr. Larkin oversees a program in applcaition of artificial Intelligence to DN's Genetics resources, including the Alzheimer's Disease Sequencing Project (ADSP). She is also active in a number of data science and data sharing activities across the Naitonal Institutes of Health. Before joining NIA, Dr. Larkin has led extramural operations and data science and data sharing activities across NIH as part of the Big Data to KNowledge (BD2K) initiaktive, was the Director of the Office of Research Evaluation and Operations (OREO) at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), serving as a coordinator for the Common Fund’s Library of Integrated Network-Based Cellular Signatures (LINCS) program, and developed and oversaw a large portfolio in data science, computational biology and mathematical modeling, and genomics at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institue (NHLBI). Her research prior to joining NIH included functional genomics at The Institute for Genomic Research, neuroendocrinology and circadian rhythms at University of California at Berkeley, and comparative neurophysiology of hibernation and sleep at Stanford University. She earned a Ph.D. from Stanford, a M.S. in zoology from the University of Washington, and an undergraduate degree in biological sciences from Wellesley College and the University of Cambridge.
