I am a physical therapist, clinician-scientist, and board-certified geriatric clinical specialist with expertise is using Medicare claims data to evaluate functional recovery, aging in place, and healthcare utilization among older adults recovering from acute hospitalization. My current work focuses on disparities in patient-centered outcomes, including healthy days at home, among important subgroups of older adults including newly disabled, socioeconomically disadvantaged, frail, cognitively impaired, and those with multiple chronic conditions. I am currently funded by a Paul B. Beeson Emerging Leaders Career Development Award (K76) from the National Institute on Aging, the Donaghue Foundation, and the Foundation for Physical Therapy Research. Many of my 57 peer-reviewed publications have evaluated the utilization and outcomes of home-based rehabilitation across a wide variety of older adult populations with new disability, including orthopedic conditions, critical illness, and dementia. My work has been featured in high-impact journals such as JAMA Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. Additionally, my research and leadership accomplishments have been recognized with multiple external awards, including the Rose Research Award from the Academy of Orthopedic Physical Therapy and the President’s Award from the American Physical Therapy Association Home Health Care Section.
