Dr. Rebecca Allen (ORCID 0000-0002-2563-4996) received her Ph.D. in 1994 from Washington University in St. Louis. She is a Professor of Psychology and Executive Director of the Alabama Research Institute on Aging at The University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa). Dr. Allen is a licensed and board-certified Clinical Geropsychologist. Her research and clinical interests are 1) the cultural dynamics (race/ethnicity; rural/urban) of healthcare and financial decision-making; 2) clinical training issues, particularly ethics and effective treatment delivery to address health and mental health disparities; and 3) interventions to reduce the stress of individuals, family, and professional caregivers within the context of advanced chronic or terminal illness. She has published over 100 journal articles, books, and book chapters on these topics, focusing on mixed methodology and community-engaged research. Dr. Allen has received funding for her research from the National Institute on Aging, the National Institute of Nursing Research, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and the Health Resources and Services Administration (including Graduate Psychology Education training grants). She is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and the American Psychological Association. She teaches affect and lifespan developmental psychology, clinical psychology of aging intervention and assessment, and geropsychology practicum. Dr. Allen is a First Generation Scholar with an active behavioral science research lab that welcomes First Generation undergraduate and graduate students.
