Professor Irene Blackberry is the John Richards Chair of Rural Ageing and Aged Care Research and Director of the Care Economy Research Institute at La Trobe University, Australia. Irene is the Past President of Australian Association of Gerontology Victoria, Associate Editor of Elsevier Primary Care Diabetes journal and on the Editorial Board of Frontiers in Medicine and Geriatrics journals. She has a medical background and is a health services researcher with significant expertise in designing and conducting pragmatic trials of complex multifactorial health services.
There are two major research streams to her work on chronic diseases and ageing, united by a focus on implementation science of complex multi-factorial intervention across the community, primary and secondary care setting drawing on both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Her current research focuses on improving access to care delivery for older people with complex chronic conditions and breaking down the silos in care economy.
