Kristine J. Ajrouch, PhD is Professor of Sociology at Eastern Michigan University, and Adjunct Research Professor at the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan. Her research has focused, for over twenty years, on Arab Americans beginning with ethnic identity formation among adolescent children of immigrants followed by the study of social relations, aging and health. Dr. Ajrouch is currently leading two research projects around Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in the Arab American community. The first, funded by the National Institute of Aging, aims to establish prevalence levels of AD among Arab Americans aged 65 and older in the metro Detroit area. The second, funded by the Michigan Health Endowment Fund, will adapt an AD caregiver intervention program to meet the needs of Arab American families.
