Boston College
Boston, Massachusetts, United States
James Lubben is Professor Emeritus at Boston College and UCLA where he served as principal investigator or collaborator on over US$35 million of research and training grants. He was an engaged teacher and mentor serving on over 50 doctoral dissertation committees. With support from Gerontological Society of America (GSA), he secured $12 million of funding from the John A. Hartford Foundation that supported 104 dissertation research projects in gerontological social work. The Harford Doctoral Fellows came from universities across the United States.
Dr. Lubben’s own research considers social isolation as a behavioral health risk among older adults. To carry out this research agenda, he developed the Lubben Social Network Scale (LSNS), an abbreviated measure designed for both research and clinical use among older populations. The LSNS-6 has increasingly been used as a validated measure of social isolation. Dr. Lubben is a Fellow in GSA, the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare (AASWSW) and the Society of Social Work and Research (SSWR).
