Manfred Diehl is University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Colorado State University. His research program focuses on social-emotional development across the adult lifespan broadly defined. Over the past decade, Dr. Diehl (together with Dr. Hans-Werner Wahl) established the concept of Awareness of Age-Related Change (AARC) in the subjective aging literature. This concept represents a new way of studying middle-aged and older adults’ self-perceptions of aging. Currently, Dr. Diehl’s work addresses how changing adults’ negative views of aging may be used to promote positive health behavior and successful aging. Dr. Diehl’s research is funded by the National Institute on Aging of the National Institutes of Health.
