Kyle is a Staff Psychologist at the Durham VA Medical Center and an Investigator affiliated with the Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC) and Geriatrics Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC). He is funded by a Clinical Science Research & Development (CSR&D) Career Development Award (CDA-2; CX002694-01) through the Office of Research and Development (ORD). Kyle received his B.A. from the University of Virginia in Psychology and History. He subsequently received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a focus on Health Psychology from the University of Arizona. He completed his doctoral internship at the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System in Seattle.
Kyle’s research focuses on understanding the impact of stress and trauma on health across the lifespan, particuarlly among at-risk populations such as U.S. military veterans. His work examines the social, behavioral, and physioloigcal mechanisms that link the experience of adversity with poor health, with a particular focus on accelerated biological aging. Kyle makes use of both longitudinal cohort study designs and lab-based experimental paradigms in his work, integrating top-down and bottom-up approaches. Included in his work examining mechanisms of action, Kyle studies how behavioral interventions might improve health among people who experience adversity as they age.
