I am currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley working with Dr. Robert Levenson. My research broadly examines the effectiveness of socioemotional processes such as empathy and compassion in different contexts as well as individual variation in motivation to engage in these processes. I test how perceptions of mental effort, neural damage, and neurodegeneration affect people’s propensity and capacity to understand other people’s perspectives and foster concern for their well-being. Currently, I am examining the long-term outcomes of informal caregivers of people who are diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disease, and the factors might associate with improved or worsening outcomes for these caregivers once their active role ends. I will be starting a tenure-track faculty position at the University of Western in Ontario in Fall, 2024.
