Gemmae M. Fix, PhD is an applied medical anthropologist with postdoctoral training in health services research. She is an investigator at the VA Center for Healthcare Organization and Implementation Research (CHOIR), a Health Services Research and Development Center of Innovation, co-located at the Boston and Bedford VA Medical Centers. She also holds an appointment at Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Fix uses ethnographic, qualitative methods to advance the delivery of patient-centered care. She currently leads VA and DoD funded studies developing patient-centered initiatives for people living with HIV and those who are at risk for lung cancer. These mixed-methods studies use co-design, an approach that engages patients in the research process.
