Janice Whitaker has served as Administrator, Project Manager, and Community Liaison for the Tressa Nese and Helen Diskevich Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence, Penn State Nese College of Nursing since 2015. Janice provides operational management of CGNE strategic plan including education, research, service, and sustainability - including CGNE Seminar Series, Gero Scholars Program, Alumni & Friends Spring Brunch, and much more! A team member for Age Friendly Care, PA, Janice shares geriatric and nursing management expertise during ECHO sessions for healthcare providers and graduate students. Responsible for community engagement for this HRSA-funded GWEP, Janice leads Living with Dementia with optional Memory Café, an interdisciplinary program which integrates evidence-based strategies for care partner education to improve quality of care/ life and intergenerational programming for PLWD. A geriatric nurse, certified dementia practitioner, and former Director of Nursing, Janice served on expert panel for COVID-19 Project ECHO in Nursing Homes, a PCORI grant implemented by Penn State College of Medicine. This work continues as Co-I on South Central PA Long-Term Care RISE, providing education and quality improvement support to LTCFs. Janice also directed Program for Enhancing Excellence in Care, a performance improvement project implemented in SNF and Senior LIFE centers in Cambria County. Recognized by National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing as a Distinguished Educator in Geriatric Nursing, Sigma Beta Theta Tau International with Honor a Nurse award, Celebrating Women in Our Community, and Vermont Most Outstanding Teacher. A member of GSA, NHCGNE, and several advisory boards in Central PA. Janice has a Masters in Educational Leadership from University of Vermont, a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Hartwick College, and certification as a Dementia Practitioner. As a Health Careers instructor, she was adjunct faculty at CCV and Licensed Nursing Assistant instructor. Janice has enjoyed a wonderful career with an emphasis in gerontology!
