Jenny van der Steen, MSc, PhD, FGSA is an epidemiologist and Associate Professor in the Netherlands researching how to improve care for older people, in particular persons with dementia and their family caregivers. She authored the European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC) white paper on palliative care in dementia with recommendations for practice, policy, and research and she chairs the EAPC advance care planning in dementia taskforce. Her work has been funded mostly by Dutch and European career awards. The research focuses on end of life, non-pharmacological interventions and advance care planning. It uses quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods, employing international comparative and parallel methodological work where possible, to increase the relevance and rigor of the research.
