Fredrica Nyqvist, Associate Professor, research concentrates on social exclusion/inclusion, social inequalities, civic engagement, loneliness, and health in the second half of life. After her PhD (Åbo Akademi University (ÅAU), 2009) she accomplished a 3-year (2011-2014) post-doctoral Fellowship within the FLARE (Future Leaders of Ageing Research) programme supported by members of the European Research Area in Ageing (ERA-AGE) and was financed by the Academy of Finland. More recently she has been leading a two-year research project (2019-2021) entitled Social inclusion amongst older people from a minority perspective – a national and international comparison (AgeMin). She is currently a co-leader for two international projects: the Gerontological Regional Database (GERDA) study and Exclusion from civic engagement of a diverse older population: Features, experiences and policy implications (CIVEX). GERDA is a cross-border, interdisciplinary research collaboration between Umeå University in Sweden and ÅAU, Novia University of Applied Sciences, Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences, and Åland University of Applied Sciences in Finland. CIVEX (2021-2024) was funded under the Joint Programme Initiative (JPI) “More Years, Better Lives” (MYBL). CIVEX aims to investigate features of exclusion from multidimensional civic engagement in later life and older adults’ experiences of such exclusion, and to identify evidence-based policy responses to address exclusion from civic activities. Nyqvist is the PI for the Finnish team.
