George E. Taffet, MD, FGSA, FACP received both BA in Mathematics and MD from Brown University, followed by Internal Medicine residency and Geriatric Medicine and Cardiovascular Research fellowships at Baylor College of Medicine (Houston TX). He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. Making Houston home, he remained at Baylor, at Houston Methodist Hospital and DeBakey VAMC. Section Chief from 2002-2018, he directed Baylor’s Geriatrics Fellowship and Hartford Center of Excellence. Currently, he is Professor of Medicine\Geriatrics, Robert J. Luchi M.D. Chair in Geriatrics, and Vice Chair for Education at Houston Methodist Hospital.
In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Taffet’s research interests include cardiovascular aging, heart failure, and advancing bench to bedside research. He designed techniques measuring cardiovascular stiffening in mice and human studies to remedy aspects of aging. He served on several NIH study sections. He provides educational opportunities across the care spectrum, including house calls, and hospice. Dr. Taffet holds appointments at Texas A&M and Weill-Cornell. Author of 150 papers and book chapters he holds Fellowships in Gerontological Society of America and American College of Physicians. Dr. Taffet won the 2015 Master Clinician award, Baylor’s highest clinical acclaim and 2013 Robertson Award, Baylor’s highest educator recognition and the 2023 Mark L. Entman Award for Cardiovascular Research, Baylor’s highest recognition for CV Research.
