Dr. Diana Cervantes has over 20 years of infection prevention experience working in a wide range of sectors including public health, health care, and academia. As a public health microbiologist, she established one of the first bioterrorism response laboratories in Texas specializing in molecular detection of infectious agents. As an epidemiologist, Dr. Cervantes led teams at both county and state health departments to provide outbreak prevention and control measure assistance in long-term, acute, and ambulatory healthcare facilities. Dr. Cervantes worked as an infection prevention manager for an 800-bed acute care facility where she provided oversight to the infection prevention department and conducted routine infection prevention duties including infection prevention rounds, risk assessments, infection prevention education, and healthcare-associated infection surveillance.
Dr. Cervantes is currently an Associate Professor of Epidemiology and the Director of the MPH Epidemiology Program at The Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas. Her focus areas include applied epidemiology, person-centered care, and infectious disease prevention and control measures in nursing facilities. Dr. Cervantes is a certified technologist in molecular biology, certified in infection control, and certified in infection prevention in long-term care.
