Masako Mayahara PhD, RN, FAAN, FPCN, CHPN is an Associate Professor at Washington University School of Medicine Division of Palliative Medicine.
Dr. Mayahara, a clinical expert in pain management in hospice and palliative care. She conducts research to improve analgesic management provided by hospice caregivers. She is currently principal investigator on an NIH-funded trial to test the effects of a digital application (e-PainSupport) to reduce home hospice patients’ pain intensity. Additionally, she is co-investigator on two NIH R01 grants, including a study funded by the National Institutes of Aging to provide chronic grief intervention to dementia caregivers using video conference technology. Dr. Mayahara’s contributions to advancing the scientific basis for hospice and palliative nursing are nationally recognized. She has been honored as a Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association Research Scholar, as well as a Fellow in Palliative Care Nursing. She is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Hospice and Palliative Nursing and currently serves as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association and Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation. She is the past chair of Midwest Nursing Research Society Palliative Care and End-of-Life Research Interest Group and currently serves on the board of director at Midwest Nursing Research Society.
