I am Professor and Founding Director of the School of Global Health Management and Informatics, College of Community Innovation & Education, at the University of Central Florida (UCF), Orlando, FL. I also serve as the Health-specialization liaison of our interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in Public Affairs. I’m the Founding Director of UCF’s Taiwan Study Abroad Program on Asian Culture, Healthcare, & Aging. I also serve on the Board of Directors for the Southern Gerontological Society (SGS).
Prior joining UCF in 2015, I was a key founding faculty member of the College of Public Health and founding director of the Taiwan Public Health Study Abroad Program at the University of Georgia, Athens, GA. I received both of my DrPH and MPH from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. I served as an Associate Editor for the Health Promotion Practice (2009-2015), Society of Public Health Education’s official journal.
My research focuses on mixed methods research methodology and Aging-in-Community models and programs to promote older adult healthy aging. I have extensive research experience on community and worksite strategies to promote early detection and prevention of selected cancers and HIV/AIDS. Most of my research has involved working with community partners in developing and validating study instruments, assessing psycho-social factors of health behaviors, developing / implementing / evaluating theory-based health programs and interventions.
Prior to become a university faculty member, I had considerable leadership and administrative experience in health care and community settings, serving as the Founding Director of the Community Health Department at one of the major teaching hospitals in Taiwan. I was the 2013-2014 President for the Chinese-American Academic & Professional Association in South-eastern United States. I have published 130+ peer-reviewed journal articles, presented 250+ papers at national and international conferences, and given 130+ invited international presentations, workshops, or seminars.
