Megan Davies completed an undergraduate degree in Hospitality Business Management at Sheffield Hallam University (UK), from which, she had a successful career in marketing for almost nine years. In February 2016, Megan left her marketing career, to develop a plan to retrain to work in physiotherapy and rehabilitation. After completing an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Health Professions and while working as a nursing assistant on an older person’s medicine ward at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, it became clear to Megan that her focus would be on older adults. In 2017, Megan was offered the chance to undertake a Master’s Degree in Applied Sport and Exercise Science at Sheffield Hallam University. Here, she was able to combine her interest in sport and rehabilitation with older person’s medicine, to produce a thesis looking at the effect of activity groups on caregiver observed neuropsychiatric dementia symptoms and caregiver distress. During her Master’s program, Megan realised her interest in research activities and began working as a research assistant with Sheffield Hallam University in 2018. This led to an application to and ultimately a position as a PhD candidate on the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie TRANS-SENIOR programme with the University of Basel (Switzerland) and Maastricht University (the Netherlands). Megan completed her PhD titled ‘Tri-national ethnographic multi-case study of person-centred practices on quality of life in long-term residential care (TRIANGLE)’ in March 2023. During her PhD, Megan undertook three rapid-ethnographic studies in long-term residential care homes in Switzerland, the UK and the Netherlands, to explore person-centred practices in each of the three homes and how this impacted resident quality of life, with a focus on resident experiences, putting their voices at the forefront.
