I am an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at Virginia Commonwealth University. My program of research is directed toward developing, applying, and evaluating technology applications, including in-home sensors, wearable devices, and smart speakers, to advance the methods of detecting early functional changes and social isolation/loneliness that may lead to adverse health outcomes and to promote healthy aging in older adults. I also continue to work on advancing the technology implementation science by exploring older adults’ acceptability of smart home technology and wearables in a sociocultural context. My ultimate goal is to develop a community-based informatics approach to support older adults' need for aging in place through the end of life, maximizing independence and function.
