Dr. Jennifer Crittenden is an assistant professor of social work at the University of Maine and also serves as the Associate Director for Research at the University of Maine Center on Aging. She has over seventeen years of experience in aging research, professional and community education, program evaluation and program planning. Dr. Crittenden’s research interests span a range of topics surrounding older adult health and well-being. Nearly all research projects and grant-funded programs under her management entail the translation of academic research into professional and public education programs, events, and dissemination activities. Dr. Crittenden has been involved in implementing and evaluating a wide range of research, training, and community service initiatives including serving as the Program Manager for Encore Leadership Corps, an innovative volunteer leadership program for Mainers 50+ and serving as Project Manager for the National Institutes of Health-funded Balancing Act Clinical Trial, a research study testing a falls prevention program among older adults with visual impairments. Dr. Crittenden is currently the evaluation co-lead for the HRSA-funded AgingME Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program. She has also served as a co-PI for The Mayer-Rothschild Foundation Designation of Excellence in Person-Centered Long-Term Care Project, a project that is developing a national framework from which person-centered care can be defined, implemented, and measured in long-term care settings. Dr. Crittenden has served as a lead evaluator and advisor for interprofessional oral health initiatives across the care continuum including the MOTIVATE program, educating long-term care staff, and MOTIVATE at Home providing oral health education to care partners of older adults. With funding from the AmeriCorps Office of Research and Evaluation (ORE) and AmeriCorps Seniors, Dr. Crittenden has conducted research exploring how life role intersections impact older adult volunteerism and she is currently conducting research on virtual volunteering among older adults within national service programs.
