Alisha R. Thompson is a PhD candidate in the School of Social Work at Louisiana State University. She holds a B.S. in Psychology and a Masters in Social Work with a Specialization in Gerontology, both from LSU. Thompson returned to LSU to pursue a PhD in the fall of 2020. Much of her research has focused on the health and wellbeing of older people related to emergency preparedness. She plans to focus her dissertation on the relationship between community, technology use, and sociodemographic factors, particularly their impact on self-efficacy in older people with visual impairments.
Thompson is a Huel D. Perkins Diversity Fellow at LSU (2020-2024), an Association for Gerontology Education in Social Work (AGESW) Pre-Dissertation Fellow (2022-2023), and a GSA Summer Policy Intern (2023-2024). She recognizes the privilege and responsibility that comes with these honors, and is committed to giving back and paying forward the trust that has been placed in her by contributing to the development of future aging advocates and scholars through recruitment and training efforts. Thompson is enthusiastic about sharing her experiences and building meaningful connections with others in the field of aging.
