Julie Ober Allen, PhD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor of Health Promotion at the University of Oklahoma and an Adjunct Faculty Associate with the Research Center for Group Dynamics at the Univerisity of Michigan. My research program seeks to better understand and intervene upon mechanisms generating disparities in chronic disease among older U.S. adults. This work focuses on how exposure to chronic stressors rooted in social inequities over the life course (e.g., discrimination, race and gender ideologies, ageism, stressful life events) influence contextual, psychosocial, biological, and behavioral determinants of health. My work emphasizes Black-White health disparities, innovative community-based health interventions, and health outcomes such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancers, and multimorbidity.
