Nancy Hooyman is the Hooyman Professor of Gerontology and Dean Emeritus at the University of Washington School of Social Work. She is author of over 140 articles and chapters, and 13 books, which include a widely used text, Social Gerontology: A Multidisciplinary Perspective (10th Edition); Aging Matters: An Introduction to Social Gerontology; Feminist Perspectives on Family care; Taking Care of Older Relatives, one of the first widely used books on family caregiving, and Living through Loss: Interventions across the Lifespan (2nd edition). Her book Care Justice in a Diverse Aging Society will be published in 2024. She is a frequent presenter on multigenerational policy, gender, class and racial inequities in care work, feminist gerontology, end-of-life care, and gerontological curricular change both nationally and in China, Cambodia, Vietnam, and South Africa. She served for 12 years as Co-Principal Investigator, CSWE National Center for Gerontological Social Work Education, funded by the John A. Hartford Foundation. She is a Fellow in GSA,and served on the board and numerous committees. She is the recipient of the 2009 CSWE Significant Lifetime Achievement Award in Social Work Education and the 1998 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Gerontology Education in Social Work Education. She was inducted into the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare in 2011, where she served as Vice-President. She retired in September 2019 after a 40-year career at the University of Washington and is now President of Wider Horizons, a virtual village in Seattle, and serves on five advisory committees for aging services.
